New Season, New Approach for Stars
After a long break whilst the world coped with the pandemic, finally the Stars are looking forward to a brand new season in NIHL North 1 alongside Blackburn Hawks, Nottingham Lions, Sheffield Scimitars, Solihull Barons, Solway Sharks, Whitley Warriors and Widnes Wild as announced by the EIHA yesterday evening.
The longer term effects of the pandemic on our sport have yet to be realised, specifically in terms of the players that return, the fanbase and the availability of sponsorship support on which the Stars survive. With so much uncertainty, this coming season will see the Stars seek to rebuild with a home-grown squad, coached by Stephen Foster and Michael Bowman.
Stars training will resume in mid-August, with a meeting planned with the Junior Management Team to discuss the way forward for the Seniors and Juniors to work together.
The Senior Stars coaches will liaise with the Junior coaches, selecting players to attend Senior training throughout August. It will then be down to the Senior coaches to select a team ready for the new season.
General Manager Allen Flavell commented:
“It’s been so long since we last hit the ice and everyone connected with the team can’t wait to get going. Obviously things are not completely back to normal just yet, and we need to make sure we are in a healthy position as we look to the future. We really hope that we will see fans old and new back at the Forum come September to cheer the lads on.”
Player announcements will follow in due course, as well as new season fixtures.
